Your region through the European Middle Ages

Description

CONTEXTUALISATIONIt is a fact that nowadays Euroscepticism is growing within Europe and we think we have a responsibility to fight against it. We are convinced that our project will help to expand the feeling of being European and all the values involved, affecting present and future generations. Values such as freedom, equality, tolerance, dignity, progress and respect, among others, are present in the whole project. In this context, students show signs of low motivation in schools and we want to redirect this situation. Our experience, enthusiasm and motivation will be key to conduct an original and successful project.OBJECTIVES AND PRIORITIESThe main goal is to establish a fluid communication channel between school and real life. Early school leaving is one of the issues in our educational system and we want to have the opportunity to work together in order to change this situation. We combine multidisciplinary and innovative approaches, letting students create new scenarios out of the classroom, on the streets of the old medieval towns to be precise, experiencing history from another perspective. That way, they can enhance their skills such as creativity, teamwork, critical thinking and, obviously, communication skills in English. Another priority is to raise environmental awareness in order to leave a better future for next generations. And finally, we cannot forget about social inclusion. For this reason, audiovisual content will be created so that it is available for the most disadvantaged children.PARTICIPANTSCultural heritage is a magnificent tool to learn about the past and understand the present time. Teachers and students will discover the history and the magic of the Middle Ages through different myths and legends hidden behind the heritage of the regions. Students are the main characters in this adventure. The direct participants in each mobility are 6 students from 14 to 17 years old and 2 teachers. However, all the students of the centre will participate in some of the tasks, for example, the logo competition and the compilation of legends, with the goal of getting to know each other and strengthening their European roots. As our goal is to reduce school dropout rates, the project will be used to motivate them. The criteria to select the students are: great interest, communication skills in English, teamwork skills and good behaviour. Some available places are reserved for students with disabilities or social problems. All students will get help from teachers to carry out the activities successfully.ACTIVITIESThe topics will be changed in each mobility but the structure is the same. It is always preceded by an ice-breaking game as a starting point to get to know each other and strengthen ties. They will have previously interacted using the eTwinning platform.1. RESEARCH. The goal is to get to know and study the medieval heritage of the place that is being visited, as well as its myths and legends. The host country provides a guided tour, and students have different materials to work on and do the tasks properly.2. RECORDINGS. An audiovisual product with academic content will be created (storytelling, comics, puppets...) based on a medieval legend or myth from the region.3. ESCAPE ROOM. This activity is created using problems of scientists / mathematicians from the Middle Ages (Leonardo Da Vinci, Newton, Descartes and Fibonacci). All the teachers of the different schools will help to prepare the content using a platform called Genially.4. GUILDS. Each country has a specific guild and provides all the necessary materials to make products of the time (bread, paper, ceramics and soap).RESULTS AND DISSEMINATION- Students will be more motivated to work on school projects and won’t leave school prematurely.- To strengthen awareness of cultural heritage and European values through history “in situ”.- To improve ICT skills by creating a platform where they will share their personal and learning experiences and products. Platforms like eTwinning, Twinspace and Genially will also be used.- The audiovisual final product, the escape room activity and all handmade products will be donated to different NGOs.- The host school will prepare a report to analyse the results of the project and its possible improvements. The final results will be presented to other educational community members, families, authorities and neighborhood, so that they get involved in the project. At local and regional level, it will be disseminated via written press and TV. At national and international level, all the materials will be available to anyone interested (E+PRP platform). Seminars will be held to disseminate and explain the results of the project. However, the most important goal is to push the boundaries of the eTwinning platform and to be able to use it in daily classroom work, promoting new innovative ways of teaching and learning.
