International migration is a complex phenomenon that touches on a multiplicity of economic, social and security aspects affecting our daily lives in an increasingly interconnected world. According to IOM current estimates are that there are 244 million international migrants globally (or 3.3% of the world’s population).Ranging from films and newspapers to tweets, that coverage may have portrayed migration in one way or another, or simply raised it as a topical issue. Digital media allow for the sharing of information to large and diverse communities, often in real time. While this connectivity allows for greater communication and information flow, the fast and often uncontrolled flow of information can also lead to increasingly polarized representations of refugees/migrants among receiving communities, by conjuring xenophobic viewpoints that effectively ‘strip the humanity’ away fro migrants and refugees. Considering the distorted image of the topic in the media there is a necessity that young people need to learn the basic principles of journalism to share in the media and through that to contribute to elimination of negative stereotypes. As youth workers and teachers we have designed this project for main target group in terms of end users ; young people 18-22 from socially disadvantaged backgrounds , to support improve their journalistic skills with a methodology which will be based on interrelated digital media workshops and the refugee crisis/migration being the focus theme of the project, but also will be adaptable to other topics of societal which will help them not toremain as spectators in their lives and become active citizenship .Methodology will be '' project based '' which will ,promote the group development of assignments. Therefore, we can make working proposals to the youth and, working on them, they may acquire and improve the key competences defined by the teaching team with a real impact on their social context. This can be defined not only through the detection ofproblems but through the detection of opportunities. In this project , our approach won’t be specially focused on problems but on opportunities. That’s because we’ll use “project based” learning which makes it innovative with its methodology .A Project Based Learning is a methodology that places the YOUTH at the center of the learning process, as the “main character” capable of generatingsolutions in response to the different opportunities and challenges posed by the society. The methodology of the project takes youth form the back seats where they are media consumers and let them drive to become media producers .Youth will be trained about digital photography , digital storytelling, online platforms and social media , after which they will be able to develop new points ofview towards the social issues around and make their own stories.
