NANOFILT

Description

Air pollution is a critical global challenge affecting public health and the environment. The NANOFILT project will address this issue by advancing nanofibre-based filtration technologies. Current air filters face limitations in balancing efficiency with durability and cost effectiveness. This research will develop novel nanofibre composite membranes that go beyond state-of-the-art air filtration. The main objectives are to: (1) Create innovative nanofibre composites with enhanced mechanical and functional properties. (2) Conduct comprehensive characterisation of these new materials. (3) Develop predictive models for material behaviour. (4) Evaluate the composites' performance in real-world air filtration scenarios. The project will involve extensive laboratory work, computational modelling and performance testing. A planned short secondment to an industrial partner will offer insights into practical applications and market needs. This MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship will greatly enhance the researcher's career by providing advanced nanomaterial synthesis and characterisation skills, expertise in computational modelling of advanced materials, experience in translating research into practical applications and opportunities for interdisciplinary/intersectoral collaboration. The project outcomes will be improved air quality solutions with potential applications in residential, industrial and automotive sectors. The research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals and EU priorities in innovative materials and environmental challenges. By combining cutting-edge materials science with practical air filtration needs, this timely project promises to deliver significant scientific advances and societal benefits. Its interdisciplinary nature, along with the fellow's expertise and the host institution's advanced facilities, position this project to make substantial contributions to air filtration technology.
