The health expenditure in the EU is expected to rise by 350% by 2050 compared to an economic expansion of only 180% and the provision of Long Term Care (LTC) will pose an increasing challenge to the sustainability of public finances in the EU, due to an ageing population. REACH therefore represents a solution that seeks to prevent elderly citizens from loss of function and a decline of being able to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) independently leading ultimately to entering LTC. REACH is a personalized prevention and intervention system that promotes the activity of the elderly by monitoring and evaluating their daily habits, considering both personal medical history as well as real-time gathered data from a series of wearable and embedded sensors, in order to mitigate loss of function and to arrest associated and/or consequential morbidities via a number of physical and virtual activity intervention modules. REACH is an open solution that proposes its own innovative systems while remaining compatible with existing sensing systems and technologies. This is demonstrated by REACH’s cross-compatibility and integration of Philips’ HealthSuite Digital Platform (HSDP). Both REACH functioanlity and additional services by stakeholders and 3rd parties via the HSDP are inserted into the target environment through compact, preconfigurable and easily deployable smart furniture :Personalised Interior Intelligent Units (PI²Us). All consortium partners join their combined knowledge and developed expertise to fully deploy REACH in a naturalistic use-case environment via Lyngby. REACH entails multiple benefits for the elderly and for care systems it contributes to a significant reduction of cost though reducing the amount of doctor’s care and LTC admissions. REACH will allow European industry including SMEs to capitalise on the European high-tech-knowhow and make Europe a market leader in prevention technologies, services and underlying health care ICT platforms.

NEXTRUST objective is to increase efficiency and sustainability in logistics by developing interconnected trusted collaborative networks along the entire supply chain. These trusted networks, built horizontally and vertically, will fully integrate shippers, LSPs and intermodal operators as equal partners. To reach a high level of sustainability, we will not only bundle freight volumes, but shift them off the road to intermodal rail and waterway. NEXTRUST will build these trusted networks ideally bottom up, with like-minded partners, adding multiple layers of transport flows that have been de-coupled and then re-connected more effectively along the supply chain. We will develop C-ITS cloud based smart visibility software to support the re-engineering of the networks, improving real-time utilization of transport assets. NEXTRUST will focus on research activities that create stickiness for collaboration in the market, validated through pilot cases in live conditions. The action engages major shippers as partners (Beiersdorf, Borealis, Colruyt, Delhaize, KC, Mondelez, Panasonic, Philips, Unilever) owning freight volumes well over 1.000.000 annual truck movements across Europe, plus SME shippers and LSPs with a track record in ICT innovation. The pilot cases cover the entire scope of the call and cover a broad cross section of entire supply chain (from raw material to end-consumers) for multiple industries. The creation and validation of trusted collaborative networks will be market oriented and implemented at an accelerated rate for high impact. We expect our pilot cases to reduce deliveries by 20%-40% and with modal shift to reduce GHG emissions by 40%-70%. Load factors will increase by 50%-60% given our emphasis on back-load/modal shift initiatives. NEXTRUST will achieve a high impact with improved asset utilization and logistics cost efficiency, creating a sustainable, competitive arena for European logistics that will be an inspirational example for the market.

Innovation is at the heart of Europe’s growth strategy. However, Europe lags behind its international competitors in converting investment in Public Research Organisation PRO research into commercial returns via innovation. The solution lies in improving the transfer of technology from PROs to industry but there are many barriers to effective technology transfer, including: Most Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) in PROs are small, underfunded and under-skilled; a small investor pool and long timescales make it difficult to secure finance and; there is poor understanding between IP creators, exploiters, funders and end-users. To address these barriers, PROGRESS-TT will transfer the expertise of Europe’s leading PROs to those with the greatest potential to grow. We will gather best practice from leading PROs and thought leaders and formulate it into Europe’s most definitive TT tools, methods and insight. We will then begin a programme of knowledge transfer tailored to the audience’s level of ‘readiness’ to grow. This will include: • Training, workshops, boot camps and e-learning delivered to emerging PROs and TT funds to develop their core skills • Intensive coaching and mentoring for high potential PROs to accelerate their TT activity. We will form ‘teams’ comprising experienced TTO performers, industry, funds and high potential PROs to develop capability, capacity, opportunity, desire, and to build a supportive TT environment. • Improving access to finance by bringing established and emerging funds together to share best practice and identify cross-border opportunities We will continuously improve best practice based on our trial activities, in order to create a validated legacy programme to continue supporting PROs across Europe beyond project end. Through this support, we estimate a typical high potential PRO will improve its performance by 500% in the five years following intensive support, delivering at least €6 million to the European economy per PRO supported
