This project will achieve regular collaboration between Europe’s well-developed networks of migration researchers and stakeholders for the purpose of evidence-based policymaking. As a result, European coordination on migration will be better informed of and more responsive to the recent migration dynamics and their diverse consequences. ReSOMA aims • for sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships for researchers and stakeholders to consult and work with each other more regularly in their ongoing work to inform EU public debates • to make the EU’s platforms for policy dialogue and consultation more evidence-based • to raise new evidence-based top priorities for the EU’s policy agenda A clear collaborative structure and toolbox will enable inter-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder analysis and policy dialogue with some of the most influential EU policymakers at EU and national level. Researchers will be able to put forward their robust scientific evidence and recognised authority in their field, while stakeholders will provide their complementary expertise with on-the-ground know-how and front-line experience. They are also well-positioned to secure attention from policymakers and allies from diverse sectors of society. In this collaboration, EU think-tanks will play a bridging role to combine the academic and practical expertise. They will also work alongside them to translate their evidence into ready-to-use policy briefs, recommendations and convincing messages and framings. In the end, the project will produce activities and deliverables that are both amplifying the voice of researchers and stakeholders in EU policymaking and tailored to the needs and constraints of EU and national policymakers. With the newly created tools and relationships, the project’s partners are exceptionally well-placed to enhance the role of the migration sector and research community in EU policymaking.

EUROSHIP will provide new, gender-sensitive, comparative knowledge about the effectiveness of changing social protection policies targeted at reducing poverty and social exclusion in Europe. Focal points will be the roles of social protection systems (including minimum income schemes), digitalisation of work and social protection delivery, and the social and political opportunities for active agency by three groups of citizens: youth at risk, precarious workers with care obligations and elderly and disabled people with long-term care needs. Through the involvement of national and European stakeholders, EUROSHIP aims to develop proposals for effective policies and inform relevant policymakers with a view to maximise the project’s impact from a societal as well as scientific perspective. EUROSHIP will combine diverse methods, data and disciplines (covering economics, political science, social policy and sociology) in innovative ways: (1) coordinated lifecourse interviews with low-skilled and low-income women and men; (2) focus forums with national stakeholders; (3) policy analyses based on document review and semi-structured expert interviews; (4) quantitative analyses of comparative micro-data. Linking the analyses of these data and four key concepts (social citizenship, social resilience, capability and active agency) will give original insights on how social rights mitigate risks across the lifecourse and affect the scope for exercising social citizenship by vulnerable persons within a multi-level governance system. This will add to the knowledge base for further implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights, Agenda 2030/SDGs, and through this, upward social convergence between Member States. A trans-disciplinary consortium of nine research institutions from eight countries (DE, EE, ES, HU, IT, NO, CH, and the UK) and one European CSO will implement EUROSHIP. The Consortium has a balanced composition of women and men, senior and junior researchers.

The aim of the SPES project is to generate new knowledge and evidence about the nexus between economic growth, human flourishing and sustainability, contributing to the creation and uptake of a novel integrated framework fostering the transition towards the sustainable human development in European countries and regions. The SPES project focusing its attention, both theoretically and empirically, on the four pillars of the sustainable human development: a) Productivity, conceived as pursuing an efficient use of economic, human and natural resources through innovation processes; b) Equality for all, conceived as fostering equal political, economic, social and cultural opportunities; c) Sustainability, conceived as promoting climate change mitigation and adaptation and ensuring the protection, restoration and improvement of the environment; d) Participation and empowerment, conceived as enabling citizens, social groups and communities to be active agents of their future. Focusing on these four pillars allows both an in-depth analysis of their synergies and trade-offs, and their contribution to transition performances across Europe and the Global South. SPES will combine diverse methods, including 1) econometric analysis, including microsimulation and panel data analysis; 2) co-design workshops with key stakeholders; 3) scenario analysis; 4) case-study analysis The strong involvement of a carefully structured International Stakeholder Committee and of a Scientific Advisory Board, as well as the adoption of tailored communication, dissemination and impact Strategies, will decisively contribute to foster SPES impact. The newly produced policy and measurement framework will give further strengths to the transition towards sustainable human development by informing both the public debate and the implementation of existing policy frameworks, with a particular focus on the 2030 Agenda, the European Green Deal and the Just Transition Mechanisms, and the NextGeneration EU.

SWINS will develop and test a policy-oriented toolbox for the ex-ante assessment of the economic and social returns of investments in social services over the life course. Focusing on the complementarity of services aimed at developing human capabilities throughout the lifespan, it will explore the impacts of alternative social policy scenarios entailing different social services configurations (from maternal care and ECEC, to education and ALMP, up to long-term care). SWINS will conceptualize the returns to social services in terms of income, employment, and growth, as well as bridge knowledge gaps about how these investments influence macroeconomic stability and foster the EU sustainability transition performances. By implementing a right-based social investment approach, SWINS aims to support the rethinking of social services as drivers of the EUs shift towards sustainable wellbeing, going beyond their role as mere safeguards against the transitions side effects. SWINS methodology will be based on three main steps: 1) the identification of macro-regularities, that is the relation between investment in social services and aggregate social-economic performances, 2) analysis of the micro-foundations, that is the analysis of the micro-level mechanisms that explains the macro-regularities, 3) macro and long term projection of the results. SWINS will rely on a variety of methodologies, i.e. microsimulation analysis using the EUROMOD platform and its expansions, synthetic panels, causal analysis of comparative microdata, machine learning techniques and macroeconomic agent-based models. Leveraging the expertise of a multi-disciplinary (law, economics, sociology, political science) consortium, SWINS will explicitly pursue impact by proposing concrete strategies to integrate research findings and tools into the institutional, legal and policy frameworks.

Achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the European Union's policies on environmental and social sustainability requires a comprehensive measure of human progress that does not focus solely on GDP. MERGE addresses these challenges by providing a forum for dialogue, co-creation and knowledge exchange, and by linking cutting-edge research and policy practice. A consortium of leading researchers and key communities in the field, MERGE brings together three recently launched higher education research consortia (SPES, ToBe, WISE Horizons) and an ERC grant (REAL). To scale up results, MERGE provides a framework for creating and strengthening a multidisciplinary community of researchers, a technical and knowledge network, a policy network and a network of civil society actors. Through these networks, MERGE aims to build a broad consensus on easy-to-use and acceptable indicators and frameworks for measuring multidimensional well-being within planetary boundaries in the EU and Member States, as well as in global organisations and civil society. MERGE participants will benefit from collaborative and training events, analyses, indicators, datasets and policy briefings. Through knowledge exchange, stakeholders and researchers can adopt and develop a systematic and coherent understanding of the sustainable economy paradigm in their own work.
