REGENERATE galvanizes clean energy transition on the three Balearic Islands: Palma, Ibiza and Menorca by triggering an investment of €44M in eco-sustainable renovation of 3,000+ homes in 4 years. The Islands have an urgent need to transform their tourism-dependent economy into a resilient and green one, as they are especially vulnerable to climate change and are highly dependent on fossil fuels. The REGENERATE’s renovation formula combines a market-driven, people-centric support with affordable financing, via in local One-Stop-Shop renovation offices on each island. REGENERATE’s pipeline approach is grounded in the realities of the islands building stock, defined energy efficiency & renewable energy upgrades, residents’ ability and willingness to pay. Thus, a realistic assessment of the pipeline supports the design of a self-sustainable business model for the OSS offices and enables the financing instrument to raise private capital to invest in individual home renovation projects. Stimulating bottom-up demand is at the core of this approach; REGENERATE will build upon the existing citizen engagement strategies on the islands and enhance their reach and scope. The impact goes well beyond energy savings, by boosting health, wellbeing and comfort of families, resulting in the reduction of more than 25,727 tCO2-eq/year and creating more than 4,000 jobs, 5 years after the project is completed.

DORA project is aiming at design and establishment of an integrated information system that helps passengers to optimise travel time from an origin of the travel to the airplane at the departing airport as well as from the arrival airport to the final destination. With it, the DORA integrated information system, which will be created within the project together with necessary software platforms and end user applications, is aiming at reduction of overall time needed for a typical European air travel including necessary time needed for transport to and from the airports. To ensure this, the DORA system will provide mobile, seamless, and time optimised route recommendations for the travels to the airport and time optimised routing within the airports, leading the passengers through terminals to the right security and departure gates. The DORA will integrate all necessary real time information on disruptions in the land transport environments and on incidents in the airport terminals to provide the fastest route alternatives, ensuring the accessibility of airport and airplane at any time in accordance with individual passengers’ requirements. The DORA system will be designed in a generic way, to ensure that it can be widely adopted independently on passengers and airports locations. In the project, the DORA system will be implemented and tested in realistic environments involving cities of Berlin and Palma di Mallorca as well corresponding airports in both cities with involvement of at least 500 real end users – passengers – in the trials. To support the passengers’ route optimisation, the DORA project will investigate and design technologies for recognition of waiting queues and indoor location services in airports, which will be integrated into the DORA system and tested within the project trials.

The vision of the ARV project is to contribute to speedy wide scale implementation of Climate Positive Circular Communities (CPCC) where people can thrive and prosper for generations to come. The overall aim is to demonstrate and validate attractive, resilient, and affordable solutions for CPCC that will significantly speed up the deep energy renovations and the deployment of energy and climate measures in the construction and energy industries. To achieve this, the ARV project will employ a novel concept relying on a combination of 3 conceptual pillars, 6 demonstration projects, and 9 thematic focus areas. The 3 conceptual pillars are integration, circularity and simplicity. Integration in ARV means the coupling of people, buildings, and energy systems, through multi-stakeholder co-creation and use of innovative digital tools. Circularity in ARV means a systematic way of addressing circular economy through automated use of LCA, digital logbooks and material banks. Simplicity in ARV means to make the solutions easy to understand and use for all stakeholders, from manufacturers to end-users. The 6 demos are urban regeneration projects in 6 locations around Europe. They have been carefully selected to represent the different European climates and contexts, and due to their high ambitions in environmental, social and economic sustainability. Renovation of social housing and public buildings are specifically focused. Together, they will demonstrate more than 50 innovations in more than 150,00 m2 of buildings. The 9 thematic focus areas are 1) Effective planning and implementation of CPCCs, 2) Citizen engagement, environment and well-being, 3) Sustainable building re(design) 4) Resource efficient manufacturing and construction workflows, 5) Integrated renewables and storage, 6) Energy management and flexibility, 7) Monitoring and evaluation, 8) Business models, financial mechanisms, policy and exploitation, 9) Communication, dissemination, and stakeholder outreach.
