"The conviction that school, through its essential role in educating people, has to keep up with the constant changes that make society a reality is certainly one of the reasons behind this project. The Internet in general and social media in particular are part of our lives of 21st century citizens, and the school has to provide educational support in terms of their use for personal and community benefit. Social media and new digital technologies offer an infinity of opportunities and therefore we believe that school should encourage their use in the educational process. In terms of the needs, we have found that in terms of media literacy and social media literacy in particular, an objective analysis reveals that this dimension of education is not reached in a coherent way at school level, and even less so at the level of the national educational system in general. There is no policy that includes components of this dimension in the school curriculum. However, social media, with all the opportunities and risks it offers, is a component of our everyday life, which we cannot deny, and therefore education centred on the way in which social media is used is necessary. The project ""Educational Toolkit for the Development of Social Media Literacy"" proposed by Liceul Teoretic de Informatica “Grigore Moisil” (Iasi, Romania),in partnership with Agrupamento de Escolas de Freixo (Portugal), Istituto Comprensivo 10 (Italia), CiTiP from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and Center for Independent Journalism (Romania) is an innovative educational project which takes into account an extremely important field in contemporary education - social media literacy. The project aims to create intellectual outputs that give teachers the opportunity to align their didactic approach with the concrete needs of society, combining skills training in different disciplines with the need to develop social media literacy skills in pupils. The project proposes innovative teaching practices for different disciplines, using the social media based learning tools appropriate to the digital era in which both students and teachers live. The project proposes a complex toolkit that offers the opportunity to develop social media literacy skills for students and to make lessons more attractive to any teacher interested in adapting their educational approach to the needs of the 21st century society. The main objectives of the project are:• Creation of open educational resources based on social media learning tools used in school learning activities• Developing social media literacy skills for teachers / education specialists from project teams in partner institutions• Responsible use of social media tools in the teaching process by teachers in target groups• Implementing social media based learning activities in partner institutionsThe project will involve: at least 20 project team members from partner institutions, at least 100 teachers / educational specialists involved in dissemination and testing of intellectual outputs, 14 teachers / specialists participating in the training activities, at least 250 teachers will be informed about the activities within the project, 160 teachers / education specialists will participate in the multiplier events. The activities that will be carried out within the project are: project team building, selection and preparation of participants in project activities, creation and testing of intellectual outputs, financial resource management, implementation and implementation of the DEOR dissemination plan, monitoring and evaluation of activities through specific tools. The methodology used will involve the use of a quality management manual, selection, preparation, monitoring and evaluation tools, participants and activities, as well as risk assessment tools. The results of the project will focus on creating, testing, promoting, using and evaluating 5 intellectual outputs that will constitute open educational resources accessible to all teachers/ specialists in education across Europe: O1 - Curriculum for the development of social media literacy in schools, O2 - Course support for the development of social media literacy in schools, O3 - Methodological guide for teaching social media literacy, O4 - Mobile application for implementing social media literacy in school, O5 - Collection of learning scenarios including the use of Social Media tools. The impact of the project is long-term since all intellectual outputs and sustained activities will develop social media literacy in educational context and will create a premise for the adoption of educational policies at different institutional levels that include the widespread use of learning tools based on social media and a more coherent approach on social media literacy as a part of the educational process in schools, tailored to the needs of 21th century."

Media, information and digital literacy are nowadays skills competing in importance with basic functional literacies. Acknowledging young people’s need to learn how to responsibly navigate the online space, to identify disinformation and propaganda, and to use technology in ways that do not infringe upon their rights, some institutions of formal education started introducing media literacy elements to their curricula. Romania, Hungary and Moldova are countries where basic media and information literacy skills are lower than the EU average (DESI, 2020). What is worse, basic digital skills are not sufficient to navigate, to assess and to make swift decisions on the media content young people are exposed to. The need we identified as a project team is of inclusive curriculum and methodologies to address these gaps. Thus, the goal of the project is to increase media literacy competencies for young people from difficult socio-economic backgrounds and with cultural difficulties from Hungary, Moldova and Romania so they become more resilient to disinformation. We will achieve this by developing an inclusive media literacy program that addresses youth from less served backgrounds and youth workers engaged with these groups. Project objectivesO1. Development of an integrated inclusive media and information literacy program for youth workers employing non-formal methodologies with young people with social obstacles and cultural difficulties from RO, MD, HU for a duration of 30 months. O2. Development of competences on inclusive media and information literacy program with the aid of ToT methodology and training materials for 25 youth workers working with disadvantaged young people from MD, RO, HU for a duration of 21 months.O3. Development of a promotional campaign for the two intellectual outputs (integrated program on inclusive media and information literacy program for youth workers and TOT-training design of learning activity) for 200 youth workers, media and youth sector organizations for a duration of 30 months.Project resultsIntellectual outputs realized under the project are:Two intellectual outputs, namely one curriculum on inclusive media and information literacy program for youth workers and ToT methodology and training materials for youth workers on inclusive media literacy (in English, Hungarian and Romanian. Training and learning activities:four workshops for testing media literacy materials.Train-the-Trainer (ToT) workshop with 25 participants from Hungary, Moldova and Romania.Dissemination activities: 25 follow-up activities implemented by the trained youth workers in the project that will include short movies/ demos of inclusive methods and tools, articles and pictures.1 promotional campaign that will include communication and dissemination activities.1 online, free and open platform for all project content. The platform will provide the space and the context to disseminate nationally and internationally the IOs and resources developed in this project, aiming to reach countries where Romanian and Hungarian speaking youth live, including migrant and minority communities from outside national borders. Giving that the content and platform will be in English as well, we will disseminate the content among international partners and media literacy stakeholdersdissemination in the national press and social media campaigns to promote the products of the IOs and the issues surrounding inclusive education practices. The project team has been assembled for their expertise, their geographical location and their proven capacity to implement complex activities: The Center for Independent Journalism (CJI), Romania and the Association for an Independent Press (API), Moldova and three youth focused organisations with different profiles, namely Artemisszio, Hungary- with a strong focus on inclusive competency development, Turul Madar, Romania-with a focus on cultural education for young people, and the Civic Resource Center (CRC), Romania-with a focus on democratic and civic programs for young people. The blend of media expertise, civic, cultural and inclusive education for young people is the main strategic element of our partnership offering new innovative approaches to each partner. The InMedia project is committed to open and free education, and for this reason all its course materials and methodologies, will be made available on an open online teaching platform, in English, Hungarian and Romanian. We aim to reach with this project primarily youth workers engaged with vulnerable youth, young people with socio economic and cultural difficulties, and media and education specialists. However, our larger audience is formed by parents, teachers, local and national decision makers, and at a European level policy makers.

MEDIADELCOM endeavours to contribute to the enhancement of European integration, social cohesion and consequently – Europeanization. The popularity of ultra-right and populist political forces in European societies demonstrate that the unity of European nations and their common goals are not self-evident. Informed decision making in contemporary democratic societies is being challenged. MEDIADELCOM consortium argues that European political and cultural spaces evolve best if specific policies enhance the conditions for deliberative communication. The Consortium will work out a methodology enabling the assessment and forecast of the risks and opportunities for deliberative communication emerging in the process of media transformation in 2000-2020. There is no holistic approach to media related Risks and Opportunities (ROs); media studies and data are dispersed, restricting the evaluation of ROs for deliberative communication in European countries; there are no evidence-based holistic scenarios for prognosing media development in European societies. The overall objective of MEDIADELCOM is to develop a diagnostic tool for policy makers, educators, media critical bodies and institutions, as well as for media experts and journalists, which enables the provision of holistic assessment of risks and opportunities concerning deliberative communication and consequently social cohesion in Europe. We will: 1) develop a model for holistic analysis of the ROs emerging within the process of media transformation in Europe; 2) assess the sufficiency of existing research and data necessary for making knowledge based forecasts about European media landscape development trends; 3) generate a novel method, based on motivational modelling and agent-based simulation for outlining scenarios to predict media related ROs. By assembling and synthesizing existing dispersed research, and modelling multiple scenarios will create an instrument for media risk prediction and management.
