Nemencines Konstanto Parcevskio gimnazijaFunder: European Commission Project Code: 2021-1-ES01-KA220-SCH-000032782Funder Contribution: 125,070 EUR"<< Background >>In Europe we waste too much and from the waste we generate most of it is still buried or burned. Only 40% is recycled, most of it downcycled into products and materials of lower value than the original ones. A zero waste strategy is based on an ambitious waste prevention policy, proactive reuse and and optimized separate collection of waste at source to guarantee quality recycling. By reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators, zero waste strategies are faster to implement, cheaper to operate and safer for the environment than traditional waste management. All in all a zero waste strategy is about involving the community in the management of their own resources, and making it cheaper and more convenient for the citizen to do the right thing. For example; plastic bottles can take centuries to decompose in the environment and enters the food chain therefore, reducing waste at source (because the best waste is still one that isn't there!), reuse, recovery, recycling and composting is very crucial for our planet. In the surveys we applied to our students during the preparation phase of our project, 34% of the students did not know the concepts of zero waste and recycling, 41% did not know the importance of zero waste and recycling for the environment, 76% heard the word ""compost"" for the first time, 67% ' We determined that 44.7% of them did not know what separation meant at the source. For this reason, after explaining the importance of recycling and zero waste processes to our students, separating them at their source, we aimed to achieve the learning experience by living with them and to concretize their learning processes by putting a concrete product in the middle. Also in the same survey, 82% of our teachers did not do any activities or activities in their lessons on zero waste and recycling issues, 93% did not know how to fully integrate zero waste and recycling into their lessons, 96% did not know how to integrate them into their zero waste and recycling lessons. It was observed that they needed training on how to prepare activities and course materials related to recycling. In our project, we aim for our students to fully understand the zero waste and recycling processes and to take an active role in these processes, as well as for our school administrations to create a zero waste policy and to teach our teachers about the zero waste processes in their lessons and to reconcile them with their lessons. Our quality of life improves when we manage waste properly because pollution affects everybody – through the air we breathe, the water we drink or the land we grow our food on. If we can educate our students at an early age about how to manage waste properly in our schools, it will be a push to start from all the layers of the society.<< Objectives >>Cleaner streets, parks, forests and beaches. Who can say “No” to that? In 2018 the EU adopted new rules to turn waste into a resource, encourage innovation and inspire change towards much better planet. Almost 90% of material resources used in the EU are lost after their first use. A lot more effort is needed to accelerate a systemic transition. Therefore we should (actually we have to) establish ambitious and binding waste prevention and recycling targets. In the project which will be implemented under the partnership of 4 schools and 2 NGO’s from during 24 months, the main teaching methods will be “Project Based Learning Method”, “Learning by doing” and “Collaborative Learning Method”. The main target group of the project is teachers and students in educational institutions, and indirectly, parents of students are included in the target audience. As a result of the project that 5 students and 2 teachers from the participating schools and 2 youth workers from participating NGO’s will participate in each of the LTT activities to be performed;•In all the schools recycling areas will be prepared by students and teachers, as well as the determination of the temporary storage areas.•The decomposition process at its source is turned into a habit by students, teachers and parents starting from their own homes.•By developing students, teachers and parents to work together in waste management practices, the development of Zero Waste and environmental awareness,•The amount of waste generated in all schools will be reduced; however reuse and recycling will be maximized,•Students, teachers and parents will be encouraged to choose products and services that generate less waste,•Carbon footprint in schools by minimizing energy consumption in schools will be reduced,•Students' will have the chance to experience the recycling of waste materials through workshops in first-hand,•Students will learn new concepts such as “Recycling Greenhouse”, “Compost”, “Up-cycling” and “Bio Gas” in Zero Waste applications and gain in-depth knowledge and experience about these concepts.,•Participating schools will learn about ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and Green School label,•Zero Waste and Recycling subjects will be integrated into the curriculum and covered in all courses,•While ensuring the recycling of wastes, by doing this with artistic and creative workshops, students can learn by living and doing,NGOs that will take part in the project will share their experiences on environment and waste management with schools, and will contribute to teachers and students to have knowledge and skills in recycling and waste management. In addition, volunteer employees of NGOs will help schools gain a new perspective on education in nature, permaculture and artistic designs, especially by combining non-formal education methods with the formal education methods of schools, contributing to the curriculum integration to be more fun and more connected to real life. In addition to these goals, it is among the goals that we want to achieve from our project that all teachers and students have the opportunity to get to know different countries' education systems closely, develop collaborative learning skills, recognize different cultures and transfer their own culture, and gain language proficiency in Europe. Thus, the schools involved in the project will gain an important competency in waste management and recycling institutionally, and will set a good example in the education regions they are in. The online course contents that these schools will produce will be an important resource in the national and European dimension through digital education platforms and the most important of our environmental problems. It will be accepted at all levels of society where the solution point is education and training institutions.<< Implementation >>There will be 4 LTTA’s in the project, also there will be 2 outcomes in the project. As we mentioned above, in order to contribute to the future of our planet, we aim to explain the zero waste and recycling processes to our students correctly, to include them in these processes and to carry out activities related to these processes in their lessons and to gain a life-long behavior in zero waste. At the same time, we aim to ensure that the achievements of the educational institutions involved in the project will be an example for other educational institutions and that the zero waste practices will turn into a policy in educational institutions. In this context, we aim to teach our students the processes of separation at the source starting from their homes by redesigning zero waste and recycling areas in our schools, to give students the opportunity to experience recycling processes through workshops in LTTA activities and to obtain a product. For this, events will be held on how to create the recycling areas of schools during LTTA activities and we will create an exemplary model by rearranging the zero waste areas of one of our schools. In addition, as a result of the workshops to be held during LTTAs, our students will be provided with new products from waste materials thanks to their artistic and creative designs. In addition, in these workshops, our students will learn how to make soap from waste oils, produce biogas from household waste, and make compost. In the Recycling Greenhouse, which is the intellectual outputs of the project, our students will build a greenhouse from recyclable materials in their schools and grow organic products using the soil obtained from compost in this greenhouse, and also have the opportunity to experience soilless agriculture and vertical farming practices in this greenhouse. Thanks to the activities to be carried out in integrating zero waste processes into the curriculum, another main goal of ours, a Zero Waste Learning Kit will be created, and thanks to this kit, our teachers will be able to carry out activities related to zero waste processes in their lessons, and students will be able to learn about zero waste processes in a fun way.In this LEARNING KIT;•Booklet containing in-class activities•Design of course materials from recycled materials•An introductory booklet explaining recycling and zero waste issues with cartoons•Slogans and songs about Zero Waste and recycling•Short stories on Zero Waste and recycling•Educational games on Zero Waste and recycling•Funny experiments set on Zero Waste and Recycling•100 great designing ideas for recycling and zero wastewill take place.<< Results >>As a result of the project;• Students will have acquired detailed knowledge and skills on zero waste and recycling.• Students will learn the importance of recycling waste• Students will improve their sorting and classification skills at the source of waste materials• There will be zero waste collection and storage areas, informative boards and signs in the interior and exterior parts of the schools.• School gardens will be redesigned with recyclable materials• Thanks to youth workers participating from NGOs, it will be ensured that teachers and students can look at recycling and zero waste from a different perspective.• Thanks to youth workers participating from NGOs, students will gain knowledge and skills about perm culture practices.• Zero Waste and Recycling subjects will be integrated into the curriculum and necessary course contents will be created in order to be taught in all courses.• Students gain knowledge about reducing Carbon footprint in schools• Students will acquire knowledge and skills regarding the use of recycling and zero waste issues in all courses.• Students will be equipped with the skills of designing lesson materials using recycled materials for all lessons.• Students will learn about recycling in industry and understand the economic benefits of recycling.• Students will understand the importance of science in recycling with their workshops and experiments.• Design and creativity skills of students who recycle and recycle wastes will increase.• Students will have knowledge and skills about soilless agriculture, compost making and vertical agriculture• There will be a greenhouse made from recycled materials in all the school gardens• Working together of students from different countries and cultures in the workshops will improve their collaboration skills and group dynamics. For the outcomes; There will a Greenhouse made from recycled materials in each partner schools garden suitable for practicing soilless agriculture and vertical farming in it with the soil made from compost. There will be a Zero Waste Learning Kit which will help teachers for carrying out activities related to zero waste processes in their lessons."

Young people are less likely to be self-employed than an older target because of finance barriers, lack of experience and skills and knowledge on funding opportunities. By providing the right support in overcoming these barriers and by encouraging innovative practice, young people’s potential can be positively affected. Nevertheless, the pandemic brought along challenges for communities and organizations all over Europe. Young people are the most affected in terms of jobs and social opportunities (ILO Monitor: COVID-19 and the world of work. 2020). Equally, we can state that this emergency showed societies how digital media, if used correctly, can support quality learning and professional development. This project focuses on digital entrepreneurship to create a community of young people who can shape a better and inclusive world for them and future generations. Entrepreneurial competences are not only useful to youngsters who actually want to start a company but encourage them to find creative solutions, see opportunities and learn to take calculated risks. Such competences are of great importance in many areas of life, including social engagement through local initiatives and for diverse professional careers. In our post-pandemic societies, the ability to adapt and develop innovative ideas has become even more crucial for young people to find their career paths. The consortium partners work closely with (second-generation) young migrants who often face additional cultural or educational barriers in accessing formative experience and employment. There is an urgent need to foster inclusion in youth work and non-formal education. The project therefore aims to apply more inclusive practices in training on media literacy & digitalization, and in the support of entrepreneurship and social engagement. The project thereby responds to the need of more actively engaging young generations with diverse backgrounds in common activities. In YISEM, partners will share best practices and identify tools to develop young people’s entrepreneurial mindsets, their understanding of the interrelations between economy and human and cultural environments. The project addresses youth educators, NGOs, youth centres and institutions involved in the field of non-formal learning who are in direct contact with the target groups. YISEM proposes tools for practitioners to better engage young people in self-directed initiatives and foster a more sustainable and social entrepreneurship based on innovation and media communication. The tools are comprised of new formats to better reach and communicate with young people.Although educational materials on entrepreneurial competences exist already, partners see a great added value in having well-structured learning content in different working languages based directly on the needs of the target groups. For the production of the project results, partners combine tested know-how and best practice on European level with specific information needed to implement social entrepreneurship initiatives in the local context.<< Objectives >>The project will foster the exchange of good practice among youth work organisations, increasing youth work quality and sustaining the creation of new educational material in podcast format. Furthermore, “YISEM” creates formative and experiential opportunities for young people, including youth with fewer opportunities, by developing small-scale social projects based on entrepreneurial principles. The YISEM consortium fully supports the program priorities of the E+ program and the European Youth Work Agenda. Firstly, a main focus is the promotion of active citizenship, young people’s sense of initiative and social entrepreneurship. Secondly, the project is designed to address digital transformation by promoting digital and social entrepreneurship with a positive use of the media, encouraging media literacy and digital marketing for social purposes. And finally, inclusion and diversity play a central role in all activities. The project consortium works daily with young people from migrant backgrounds and/or second generation and young people facing economic challenges (young unemployed or looking for further education opportunities), being sometimes overlapping situations. In the project’s needs analysis, partners identified an added value in bringing together the specific target groups with other motivated youngsters to create a common identity and foster understanding. Encouraging acceptance of different perspectives, ideas, and backgrounds will foster social innovation and create more inclusive environments. In times of the Post-Covid Pandemic YISEM also pays special attention to the reconstruction and capacity development in the area of transnational partnerships and networks. The project strengthens European partnerships through the exchange of ideas and sharing of best practices to coping with challenges in youth work that the different partners are experiencing. The development of online learning formats will help the partners with less experience with digital tools to strengthen their capacities and increase their reach of the target groups in post-pandemic times. The specific objectives addressed by the project are- to promote digital entrepreneurship competences and social engagement of young people through attractive non-formal education tools (in podcast format) and experiential and peer-learning opportunities (international training and local innovator hubs)- to foster quality youth work by providing open educational material for youth workers to support young people in their development and to facilitate implementation of youth-led projects - to strengthen capacities of youth work organizations in the fields of social entrepreneurship and digital media, and the inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities by sharing best practices- to raise awareness among local and European stakeholders on the values of inclusion and diversity, and the potentials of youth participation for social innovation- to promote digital entrepreneurship competences and social engagement, ideas for innovative career paths and non-formal education opportunities among local stakeholders in the EU countries through a cross-sectoral approach (youth & education fields, private sector and public institutions)<< Implementation >>The project objectives will be achieved through a number of activities involving partner organizations, young people and youth workers.3 transnational project meetings: - Kick-off meeting- Mid-term monitoring meeting- Final evaluation meetingRegular partner meetings, including frequent online contact, will ensure the quality implementation of the project. Partners exchange their best practices to use the full potential of each organizations’ expertise and existing tools in the fields of non-formal education, social entrepreneurship and youth initiatives, and digital media. 1 Blended Mobility of young people, including a bootcamp training in Italy, follow-up webinars and local hubs in partner countries- 24 participants (18-26 years old) from 6 partner countries- 8 day training activity with non-formal and peer learning methodsThe project aims at creating a network of young people who are able to put into practice their social ideas by using entrepreneurial and digital marketing competences. A bootcamp will be organised in Italy to give young people the needed competences and skills. For additional learning, visits to start-ups and social initiatives in the field will be organized. During the learning activity, participants will develop their own ideas for social and entrepreneurial engagement and plan the implementation at local level. Coming back to their countries, local innovation hubs will be organised by the project consortium to support the development of these small projects, supported by webinars during the period. At the end of the project, the national groups will present their work in the local multiplication events. Their stories and experiences will be shared with the other national groups through livestream.Production of open educational resourcesSeries of 30 podcasts produced in 6 working languages on topics of social entrepreneurship; including easy to understand theoretical knowledge, inspiring examples from practice, tips and suggestions from experts in the fieldThe series will be divided into 2 main lines:1. Aimed at young people to encourage their entrepreneurial spirit and competences in order to promote their participation in social and economic development of society2. Youth workers will be provided with the necessary knowledge and tools to support young people in their development and in the implementation of their own initiativesInternational and local multiplication eventsDuring one final international multiplication event and local events in each partner country, external stakeholders will learn about the project results. Invited guests (youth workers, associations, educational institutions) will have the opportunity to give feedback on the educational resources and discuss their adaptability to their own working environments.
