In the last years. In the last years, more and more knowledge is required in the disciplines necessary to support innovation in the sector: innovative technologies, innovative models, innovative designs etc. Everyone in the sector must have increasingly specialized skills: digital, more useful than ever for certifications, supply chain traceability, online transactions (blockchain, value chain). Even in the food sector many companies have to deal with the mismatch between real skills possessed by their workers and skills actually required.Blockchain adoption in agri-food industry has the potential to simplify and integrate agriculture supply chains but the level of its application is still very low in all EU countries. It has been demonstrated that Blockchain technology can positively influence two relevant aspects of the food supply chain:- Traceability: help to reduce food waste, provide reliable information regarding the origins of food- Optimization of Food Supply Chain: allow farmers to properly set their prices and optimize the quantities of products- Crop Insurance: provide more visibility across the supply chain- Transactions: help farmers to sell commodities, lowering transaction fees, prevent price coercion, provide lower costsThe objective of the project is to improve the knowledge and skills on blockchain technology of people working in agri-food sector by developing and testing a new training module and by providing the agri-food operators with an interactive learning platform to be used for training purposes. The project will be implemented by 6 organizations, having different experiences and knowledge but all working in or with agri-food sector: Rural Development Agency, University, VET provider, Industrial Research Laboratory and Innovation and Technology Transfer Center, SME, University and Organization representing the Agricultural Cooperatives. It is expected that the project will generate some very concrete results such as: - Improvement of specific skills and competences of farmers and agri-food operators required to adopt the Blochian technologies in their work- Development of 2 innovative outputs (Training Modules on Blockchain Technology and Learning platform) that will support the project partners and target groups to further improve their knowledge by organizing additional trainings and providing support to farmers and operators on application of Blockchain technology in agri-food sector. - Improvement of transnational connectivity among organizations working on development of skills in agri-food sector.

Eventhough small and medium entreprises represent a backbone of european economy providing employment, economic development and social cohesion, most of the apprenticeship positions are in large companies or in the public sector. Agriculture and food processing industry is a very important factor in the economy of Croatia, Greece, Hungary and Italy. The majority of the employees in the agricultural sector is older than 35 years. There is an urgent need to attract young and qualified employees with mutual benefit for the growth of the sector and employment. The engagement of small and medium entreprises working in agro-food sector in apprenticeship schemes should contribute to better employment of students and recently graduates who are in the labor market for the first time. Apprenticeship offers and positions contribute to the better employment and qualifications of students, as well as to the better adaption to the needs of small and medium entreprises. Leading partner of the project is Zadar County Rural Development Agency AGRRA from Croatia. Other project partners are: School of agriculture, food and veterinary medicine in Zadar, Croatia (PPVS Ozanic), IDEC a Greek certified LLL centre experienced in online platforms and quality management, INASO PASEGES the Panhellenic Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives, Tuscany Region in Italy, TREBAG a Hungarian consultancy and quality assurance company specialized in the sector and Hungarian Chamber of plant protection.Project is focused on the promotion of work-based learning and apprenticeship in agricultural sector. For that purpose uP_running incorporates a set of straight actions aimed to reshape the sectors perception, to provide evidences of real success and replicable models to follow, as well as to promote the take-off for the utilisation of APPR biomass residues. An intense communication campaign will address the varied target audience with tailored messages and materials to raise the awareness. An impact on policy barriers and on the legal framework currently setting limits for the utilisation of APPR wood will be carried out through direct advocacy and lobbying work at national and EU level. Once the awareness is raised and the sector is released of hindering barriers, a snowball effect will be triggered through multiplicative and dissemination actions. First part of uP_running multiplicative strategy is to create a permanent capacity in Europe, by empowering national and regional agrarian associations, extension services and/or private consultants with capacities to give support for decision making to farmers, cooperatives and agro-industries owing the APPR residues. A call for entrepreneurship will put into operation the newly created capacities in 7 EU countries to promote the decision making of pioneer entrepreneurs. Setting up and running new APPR biomass value chains is the key for a self-replication and to further contribute to the development of the bio-economy in Europe. The actions will be initiated in a set of 4 “demo” countries (that together account for 50% of EU potential), replicated in 3 relevant EU countries, and extended through precursor actions to 7 additional EU countries.
