As we saw the declining school results of the students, we decided to look for the solutions: how would it be possible to motivate them in a more effective way using tools that they know, use and methods that they regard useful for their future, and the ones which have developing effects on them. We want our students to be successful in their school work and later on the labour market. In order to reach this goal they will need not only more knowledge but also the necessary skills and competences of high level. The starting point for us was the general opinion that today’s teenagers are not interested in anything, they are not motivated and are indifferent. We carried out surveys and the results were partly against these stereotypes, and at the same time, they determined the way of solving the problem. It turned out that students are interested in IT, foreign languages and the world surrounding them. On the other hand they cannot be successful in the traditional subjects, and experiencing the smallest failure they give up, which leads to losing their self-confidence and another failure. We should show them a way out of this vicious circle. Our school is specialized in IT and economics. We regarded it as a basis and decided to fund a fictitious enterprise which is run by students, and which has international dimension. We could find partners: a Croatian, a Greek and a Turkish school. Everybody will fund their own company with a similar profile, and these companies will merge with each other as a big company. The profiles of these companies are determined by the results of the surveys carried out in their own school and they determine the activities as well. The enterprises will produce „products” and they will distribute them. Knowledge will be products that will be made by students in digitalized form, in interactive way, exceeding the frames of the school subjects. It will not simply be digitalizing the teaching materials of the school-books, but writing materials in the given topics by the students and the teachers. They can be used in classes by their creators-and others, and in this way we can involve students in the creating and the teaching process. As a result, a knowledge base will be created that is accessible, can be enlarged and used. The elements of the knowledge base are the units of the teaching materials, which cover a logical unit per each-they are not Wikipedia headwords-, and which are suitable for using in a class, in group or pair work or individually. They will also be good for study circles for talented or low skilled students. Creating these teaching material units and applying them will encourage students to obtain knowledge independently, where the chance of failure is less. The teaching units will be made in English, which will be useful for their English studies, and also, these materials will be accessible for the partners, and in the long run, for any European school. It can be really effective only in teamwork, because low-skilled students can join in the work, which can help them gain skills of higher levels. The tools of the activities will be smart phones (computers), which students always keep by them. During the common work they will obtain knowledge and skills which will help them to get a real sense of achievement. Those who buy a product (=obtain it) can convert it into school grades. The buyers-who are not the members of the company-may feel like creating new units, and in this way they can join the company as new colleagues. We determined the topics in a way that they should be connected to the most possible subjects. Our aim is not to work up the topics with scientific fastidiousness and in deepness. We want the students to carry out activities which they do with pleasure, where they feel they are important, where they can learn from each other and they can be successful, and which is really useful for them. They will gain serious knowledge in the given topics-and also in IT and English language, and also they can get to know the world of enterprises. With the help of these activities the teachers will play another role as usual: instead of transmitting the knowledge their organising-directing role will be more important. That is why teachers’ training will be so much emphasized in the project. During the project the companies will be funded and run, and by the end of the project teaching materials will be made ready which will be accessible by anyone-for personal use, as an idea, or for a new national or international cooperation with the help of the common webpage. Methodological handouts will also be prepared for the ready teaching material units to help those who will build this activity in their everyday work. As all our activities are framed with funding a big international company by joining the partners’ enterprises, and because of the type of our products we named our company, and also our project,as Knowledge Base International Ltd.

"In our society, we are separated from each other, indifferent to our neighbours, collegues, families, people in need. Cars and phones have taken most of us off the streets, where we used to greet each other and stop to chat.Television has planted us firmly in our living rooms, instead of out with other people. Even cinemas, where many people get together, cut us off from true conversation because we’re staring at a big screen. We tend to be focused on ourselves to the exclusion of our fellow human beings. There is tendency towards selfishness rather than giving, on helping ourselves rather than helping our brothers and sisters in humanity. In our project we wanted to change that, change people attitudes to each other. We needed this project ""to melt young people hearts"", to include them fully into neighbourhoods and societies. We wanted to teach them to help, teach them to be involved. We also wanted to attract the attention of the local and European society to the local and global problems and at the same time to find common solutions with the help of voluntary work in international cooperation. During the cooperation we got ideas mutually, which we made regular practice locally by preparing teaching materials, incorporating voluntary work into school curriculum. It ensured that the activities carried out during the project will also continue in the future. The participants of the project could experience the problems and dangers emerging in other countries. The common work carried out in several fields strengthened and will strengthen the European way of thinking and social sensitiveness. The activities contributed to the development of transversal and personal competences and foreign language skills of the participants with the help of which they can establish their future success in the labour market. We regarded the students who took part in the project, the students and parents of the participating schools as the target groups-those who were the most influenced by the project, and also the local and European societies, whom we wanted to influence with our dissemination work and to affect them. We regarded involving students with disadvantaged background and low skills one of our main aims. By involving them into the common activities they were able and will be able to become the active members of the society."

"There is also a tendency in our school that the reading ability of the students who enter the school is getting weaker and weaker. It affects their school performance and learning process. The basis of learning of all subjects is reading comprehension and writing. The lack of these skills is a major contributor to school failure and early school leaving. There are obviously many other factors contributing to this failure, but in our project we want specifically focus on developing literacy - and in general, on developing communication competencies. Reading is not a favourite pastime for young people. Longer texts discourage them, while short texts provide superficial knowledge. Reading is time consuming, while in the virtual world of smartphones they can express their feelings and thoughts within a few seconds. The virtual world offers them a ""wonderful"" world where everyone is beautiful and young, everyone can be a star, there is no need for imagination, words and long descriptions, everything is there with a single click. Accordingly, their view of the world is simplified, superficial and often distorted. Their vocabulary is poor and they find it difficult to express themselves, so they communicate with each other in social relationships very little. They only express their emotions and thoughts through emoticons in their online conversations. In our project, we want to counterbalance this process. Our aim is to raise participants' interest in reading, to introduce them to the process of creating, interpreting, and illustrating texts by creating and presenting innovation activities which -beside getting to know famous national and international literary works- will enable them to express their thoughts , to formulate their own stories, and publish them using the opportunities offered by the Internet. We intend to do all this in the framework of international cooperation, so that the participants can get to know and understand the cultural values of different nations. We would like them to expand their knowledge of other countries, to develop friendly relationships and, last but not least, to develop their foreign language skills intensively. So the project is based on the development of communication competence. Throughout the project, this competence is interpreted as a skill that identifies, interprets and conveys the participants' perception of the world, their own emotions and thoughts, in various forms of communication, visual, verbal, musical and textual. In addition to developing activities, we also aim to raise awareness of the social, economic and wider cultural factors that determine communication. Usually, only traditional school frameworks - coaching - offer little opportunity for developing communication competences, with little developmental impact. That is why we thought that in a project that focuses on reading and writing, and generally on communication, we will combine the subjects in which they are of high importance, such as literature, history, grammar and foreign language. By adding the English language, we want to create a greater motivation base, which also justifies international cooperation. The activities are often based on collaboration - even in a foreign language - so in addition to reading comprehension, in general terms, we are developing their transversal competences. We also want to use the participants' IT skills to achieve our goal, but aim to give a major role in Drama Pedagogy and Music. The activities of the project are based on writing texts by the students, based on predefined basic stories, common historical relations between partner countries, famous literary works and cultural values of the participating countries. We believe that these activities will have an intense impact on the participating students and thus they will improve their literacy and communication skills in a broader sense. As a result, they will be more successful in their studies, have the opportunity for further education, and have greater opportunities in the labour market. In the long run, we aim to provide a framework, also integrated in the school curriculum, based on the experience of the project activities and the practices of the partner schools, providing regular activities and opportunities for effective development work, and providing ideas for other schools with similar problems. The operation of this frame/model depends on the teachers involved in the project, so their training is a key part of the project. They should be engaged in activities that are different from their normal school work, and beyond their English proficiency, they will be motivated to integrate such and similar activities into school life by working together for two years and learning about good practices in partner schools. ."
