Vietnam enjoyed 20 years of economic growth following the adoption of Doi Moi or “economic renovation” (°1986). It marked a policy shift from central planning toward a mixed economy, termed as “socialist market economy”. At the same time, the role of universities all over the world changed from producing knowledge for knowledge’s sake to being a source of innovation and a motor of entrepreneurial activity and economic development. Spurred by best practices (MIT, Stanford…), policy makers all over the world increasingly expect universities to turn their knowledge and technologies into social and commercial activities that benefit society. This means that universities need mechanisms in place to effectively and efficiently organize knowledge and technology transfer (KTT). In the EU, many institutions have gone through this process while in Vietnam most of the KTT offices have only recently been set up or are currently being set up. This means they are at the start of the learning curve European KTT offices just experienced. EU KTT offices and their leaders thus can share knowledge and best practices with their Vietnamese colleagues and help build capacities and leadership in KTT.The project will organize a series of training and exchange programs for Vietnamese and European trainees while bringing together experts and stakeholders on KTT and KTT education.VETEC will: - Train Vietnamese KTT Leaders and KTT Trainers- Train European International KTT Experts- Engage and strengthen Vietnamese KTT stakeholders (researchers, policy makers and entrepreneurs…)- Lay the foundations for a Vietnamese KTT Network - Develop innovative course materials on Vietnamese KTT The VETEC Consortium consists of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Lead, BE), Universidad de Aveiro (PT), TU Dresden (DE), Hanoi University of Sciences and Technology (VN), Hué University (VN) and Can Tho University (VN) as well as a 6 Associated Partners and 1 Supporting Partner.
