The objective of this project is to develop our knowledge and practices in the field in order to adapt our curriculum accordingly and to improve the quality of the training given to students on the question of the belonging of 2nd and 3rd generation immigrant populations , from Morocco and Turkey. In fact, in many EU countries, second- and third-generation immigrants still face difficulties of belonging, of identity construction, crossing the relationship between their country of origin and their country of birth. . These categories of population are also overexposed to structural inequalities in terms of access to symbolic and material resources (discrimination in hiring, housing, school relegation, facies offenses, etc.). Particularly in connection with these identity difficulties, the question of the radicality of a small minority of these people came to light during the terrorist events of 2015 and 2016. The Member States quickly realized the urgency to cooperate, to coordinate and exchange experiences so that the best ideas and practices can be shared across the EU (Paris Declaration, 12 February 2015).In this context, universities have an important role to play. This is the aim of this project, which is cross-cutting in the departments of sociology and political science. Indeed, the training given to students in our institutions on issues of identity, of the relationship to the country of origin, and in particular of the place of Islam in the contemporary world, became very important in order to have a better mutual understanding of migration trajectories. It is important to update their content on an ongoing basis, based on expertise on the subjects concerned. Indeed, a better knowledge of the motivations and aspirations of these populations would enable decision makers to be equipped so that the public policies are in adequacy with the reality on the ground and the challenges of our democratic societies. It involves, among other things, grasping the logic of collective belonging, the forms of attachment, the values and the ethico-religious contours of these ethno-cultural groups. The consortium of this project intends to meet these needs. In order to target our topic, we must first of all note that the populations of Moroccan and Turkish origin constitute the immigrant population groups - outside the EU - among the most important in Belgium, France and Italy. After more than 50 years of presence of these populations on our territories, the understanding of these European citizens remains embryonic and feeds questions on the integration or the adhesion to the base of values of the European Union. So we decided to focus our work on these two ethno-religious groups. The objectives of the project are multiple:- To develop the knowledge of the types of anchoring in Europe and of the relation with the country of origin in the head of the Turkish and Moroccan diasporic communities- To develop knowledge of the religious component in the collective identity and ethical orientation of these populations- Develop a common methodology for gathering information in the field, including the participation of countries of origin (Turkey and Morocco)- Adapt curriculum contents in relevant training streams- Train our students in these topics in the light of updated information- Give the opportunity to our students to cross their knowledge and their eyes during an intensive program- Enable decision-makers to put in place prevention policies- Exchange practices between countries, the approach being conducted mainly in the field and in collaboration with its stakeholdersThe target groups of this project are primarily the teachers and students of the institutions involved in the project. But on the one hand, the civil society and on the other hand, the political decision-makers are also the target of our approach: the collective work that will be published within the framework of this project as well as the MOOC being important sources to enlighten the public action and debates in the city.

MIGRASYL (“Migration & asylum challenges in the Euro-Mediterranean and Africa”) focuses on the study of Mediterranean third countries as a field of experimentation on the issue of migration and as a bridging link between Southern Europe and the Sahel. Mediterranean migration has become a major concern for academic researchers, European policy makers and public opinion. Since 2011, major political upheavals on the Southern shore of the Mediterranean have brought about a crisis situation with new long-term socio-economic and legal consequences at a Euro-Mediterranean level. These changes require the renewal of the paradigms and frameworks of thought. The Mediterranean is a particularly relevant laboratory for the development of new migratory configurations. It is at the crossroads of the South-North migration route and also those of South-South, East-West. It is composed of neighbouring countries that are especially affected by migration because of their geographical location at the "forefront" of arrivals of migrants and refugees from Africa and the Middle East. MIGRASYL’s ambition is to promote the third countries’ migration policy domain that it is in urgent need of investigation. This area is a crucial empirical field for analyzing the complex interrelation concerning push factors and policies managing migration, asylum and refugees in the EuroMed. In the long term, MIGRASYL aims to build a unique multi-partner digital platform, gathering national migration observatories. With this international project, and over a 18 months period (November 2017 – April 2019), MIGRASYL will constitute a network of Euro-Mediterranean and sub-Saharan partners (France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Austria, Turkey, Mauritania, Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Malta) thanks to workshops dedicated to the challenges of international migrations and to the evolution of asylum law in this geographical area. These workshops and the MIGRASYL consortium meeting will aim at organizing and structuring an international H2020 project which will be submitted to the European Commission in 2018 or 2019, in the framework of the Societal Challenge “Europe in a changing world – Inclusive, innovative and reflective societies”, « 1. Call on Migration and the refugee crisis ». The MIGRASYL researchers will conduct fieldwork on 3 geographical areas: Southern Europe, the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, which are all impacted by important migratory flows and by the hosting of asylum seekers. MIGRASYL ambitions to gather partner institutions in the field of socio-anthropology, political sciences, law, history, demography and geography. This core partnership will be complemented by a network of associations, NGOs and Euro-Mediterranean civil society players. MIGRASYL’s outcomes will include empirical knowledge on social assistance schemes of host and transit countries, based on interviews and statistical data. Policy-makers will benefit from an analysis of the coherence and effectiveness of European policies on migration, compared with the development of migration policies in third countries. MIGRASYL will highlight good practices of institutions active in the defense of migrants and migration governance, at local, regional, national and international level, in order to combat irregular migration. It will also provide an analysis on the unexplored link between migration and sustainable development policies, particularly for Africa.

The extension of the responsibilities of universities recommended by the university reforms and the strategy ’Maroc Innovation’ in Morocco require the definition of a overarching tool combining the teaching of transversal competencies, research and innovation. The 3-year project INSITES coordinated by UH1 et having support from both the MESRSFC and MCINET will associate 17 partners from Morocco and EU member states. It aims at enhancing the university governance by institutionalizing the structures for innovation, knowledge transfer and valorisation of research. This should be approved by the CPU and the university councils. The results attended:- Assessment of the current situation of training methods for transversal competencies in Moroccan universities;- Summary of national strategies on innovation, valorisation and entrepreneurship;-Benchmarking of European experiences;- Competency references and guidelines for good management of the SITES;- Decisions of the Councils of Moroccan Universities on the approval of the setting up of the SITES and determining the chosen profiles based on the formerly approved references;- Training manual for specific transversal competencies in the Moroccan context in line with the European referencies;- Training sessions for training the trainers;- The SITES functions operationally at the Moroccan Universities;- Data base of trainers as resource persons for the generalization of experiences for all Moroccan universities;- National platform of the SITES serving as interface between institutional and economic actors;- Evaluation of the SITES;- A Communication and a Project QA Plan will be set up to ensure the quality, the dissemination and the sustainability of the project beyond its implementation period. A Charter of Good Conduct will be defined to ensure the involvement of all stakeholders and that the realization of activities of the project complies with the general rules and good project management principles.

With the rise of deep learning (DL), our world braces for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in every edge device, creating an urgent need for edge-AI processing hardware. Unlike existing solutions, this hardware needs to support high throughput, reliable, and secure AI processing at ultra-low power (ULP), with a very short time to market. With its strong legacy in edge solutions and open processing platforms, the EU is ideally positioned to become the leader in this edge-AI market. However, certain roadblocks keep the EU from assuming this leadership role: Edge processors need to become 100x more energy efficient; Their complexity demands automated design with 10x design time reduction; They must be secure and reliable to get accepted; Finally, they should be flexible and powerful to support the DL domain. CONVOLVE addresses these roadblocks and thereby enables EU leadership in Edge-AI. To that end, it will take a holistic approach with innovations at all design stack levels, including: 1.ULP memristive circuits for computation-in-memory 2.Fast compositional design of System-on-Chips (SoC) 3.Transparent compilers supporting automated code optimizations and domain-specific languages 4.Rethinking DL models through dynamic neural networks, event-based execution, and sparsity 5.On-edge continuous learning for improved accuracy, self-healing, and reliable adaptation to non-stationary environments 6.Holistic integration in SoCs supporting secure execution with real-time guarantees The CONVOLVE consortium includes some of Europe's strongest research groups and industries, covering the whole design stack and value chain. In a community effort, we will demonstrate Edge-AI computing in real-life vision and audio domains. By combining these innovative ULP and fast design solutions, CONVOLVE will, for the first time, enable reliable, smart, and energy-efficient edge-AI devices at a rapid time-to-market and low cost, and as such open the road for EU leadership in edge-processing.
