<< Objectives >>EUROSILVICS creates a common digital resource for innovative higher education in forestry, based on an Open Access web-based facility with educational material of the participating institutions made available as an Open Access Library for Learning. Education material in national languages will be reviewed, and translated into English to allow for international use in digital learning. The project involves 6 leading European universities, all well established and qualified in forestry education.<< Implementation >>This will be done by creating a dedicated open access platform for forestry education material, both basic and applied, and including supplementary material as exercises, excursions, links to professional websites, etc. The project includes a robust review and editing procedure for quality assurance, links to other open sources and to repositories of professional associations, and outreach to individual users as well as other institutions involved in forestry-related education.<< Results >>The tangible outcome is a consolidated, interactive repository of education material that can be used in a versatile way by individuals and institutions involved in higher education in forestry. In a broader sense, the project aims to contribute to understanding of forest resources in Europe and elsewhere, and to wise and sustainable management and use of forests as nature-based solutions for resource supply in the bioeconomy and for climate mitigation.

Social farming (also known as care farming) is one of the most common forms of green care or nature-based interventions. It is based on concepts of multifunctional agriculture and community-based social and health care (Di Iacovo and O’Connor, 2009). Social farming refers to the therapeutic use of farming landscapes and practices on part or all of a working farm in order to provide health, social, educational and/or vocational supports to a small number of people at risk of social exclusion. Social farming activities can be targeted towards multiple groups within society - disabled, elderly, NEETS; ex-offenders; addicts / substance abusers. All social farming activities are organised within a supervised, facilitated and structured programme of farming-related tasks involving livestock, horticulture, crops, machinery or woodland (Sempik et. al 2010). Social farming is considered an innovative approach to enhancing social inclusion amongst marginalized groups within rural areas, but their exists multiple innovative models of operating the social farming sector both within individual countries and throughout Europe. This transnational project operating across Ireland, Slovenia, Germany, Portugal and Belgium wishes to identify innovative models of social farming and associated case studies, thereby allowing the information to be shared to farmers through a training course offered as an OER, by the use of an training website. The developed courses are planned to be aligned with EQF standards. There is a tendency for social farming to operate around a small number of participants per family farm, in many instances just one or two. This implies that the farmer requires sufficient expertise in working with participants' needs and abilities; and to communicate effectively, especially with participants who are non-verbal. These training requirements can be resolved through this transnational project by creating suitable blended training and learning resources for farmers, thereby bridging critical gaps in their knowledge, skillsets and competencies. The key objectives of the project are:• To ascertain the training needs and requirements for key stakeholders (host farmers / participants / service providers) involved in the various models of social farming.• To develop a training course syllabus and associated course materials. The main training for farmers could potentially focus on: participants needs and abilities; how to communicate effectively with participants; and health and safety (risk assessments).• To engage with policymakers, rural development organizations and health care / social care providers with regard to replicating this innovative training programme on completion of the project. The target groups for this project include all the key stakeholders (social care providers; social workers; rural development organizations; farmer representative bodies; social farming representative organizations; educators) involved in social farming but particular attention will be focused on farmers hosting participants on their farms or farmers who have a desire to adopt this innovative approach to fostering social inclusion and development within a farming environment. The main intellectual outputs to be developed as part of this project include:O1 national and summary reports on the state of the art on innovative models of social farmingO2 training course syllabus and associated course materialsO3 Project and Training websiteO4 Testing and OptimizationAll intellectual outputs will be available free of charge. Awareness of their availability will be made via social and conventional media and tagged as being free on-line resources. At the completion of this project it is anticipated that there would be an increase in the number of social farms with a mission to address social exclusion amongst marginalized groups living in rural areas; and an increased awareness by all stakeholders of the benefits of social farming; and an appreciation of the necessary requirements for its implementation amongst policy-makers. Taking into account the total benefits of social farming for farmers but for the participants as well, the specific project is of an evident European added value since it promotes social inclusion and consists a measure of battling unemployment for people at the risk of social exclusion. Furthermore, through the described learning procedure, farmers will be provided with a new approach of running their businesses and enhancing their competitiveness.Overall, the FARCURA project wishes to equip stakeholders (farmers; social farming representative bodies; social and heath care providers; farming representative bodies) with the necessary knowledge, skill-sets and competencies to develop and enhance social farming, an innovative approach to fostering social inclusion amongst marginalized groups within rural society throughout Europe.

The Societal Challenges addressed by European Union (EU) strategies such as the Green Deal and Farm-to-Form require innovative solutions in agriculture, forestry and rural areas. The Multi-Actor-Approach (MAA) is a promising instrument to speed up innovation. However, the H2020 RIA LIAISON (2018-2022) has identified some deficits and inconsistencies in the interpretation of the MAA by both current and potential MA consortia and Member States’ (MS) authorities. PREMIERE will therefore foster the development of sound, coherent and well-prepared MA projects in two ways. Firstly, it will contribute to the building of project consortia that make best use of the complementary knowledge of their members during proposal writing, project activities and beyond, in particular by improving the connection between Horizon Europe (HE) MA projects and Operational Groups (OG). Secondly, through insights and tools, it will support the implementation of innovative governance and sound decision making in policy and administration for the green transition. By using the results from LIAISON and capturing ‘grass roots’ ideas from project participants, policy makers and executive agencies through stakeholder dialogue across all 27 EU MS (including with the SCAR AKIS SWG, National Contact Points and other relevant HE projects), PREMIERE will develop tools as well as training and networking events for capacity development. These will include a Serious Game, an Online Academy and a MOOC. The project will test out the effect of providing seed funding to at least eight MA organisations (mainly OGs) and prepare a handbook of good practices. This user-focused workplan, with its open science outputs, will lead to more effective EU and national AKIS. It will be implemented by a very experienced, competent and genuinely MA consortium of policy makers, executive agencies, advisors for co-innovation partnerships, AKIS actors and/or and current and potential MA project partners.

LIAISON aims to make a significant and meaningful contribution to optimising interactive innovation project approaches and the delivery of EU policies to speed up innovation in agriculture, forestry and rural areas. Researchers, policy advisors, actors from interactive innovation projects, initiatives and networks, farm/forestry advisors, decision-makers and administrators will jointly investigate the design and implementation of interactive innovation project approaches. Looking with the eyes of a larger number of interactive innovation initiatives we will assess the infrastructure of H2020 and Rural Development Programmes at the project, national and European levels. Central in the project are a 'light-touch' review of the experiences in 200 projects and initiatives, and an in-depth assessment of 32 interactive innovation project approaches in a broad range of agricultural and forestry sub-sectors and countries. We will present the diversity of projects and practices through an online 'story map' with entries from all over Europe and select 15 practitioners from innovation projects who will contribute to the project's analyses and outcomes. LIAISON will produce practice-ready methods, protocols and tools, co-designed in processes involving the target users themselves. These include participatory tools for co-creation and co-learning, for networking, communication and dissemination, impact assessment tools, and methodologies and tools for self-evaluation. An Interactive Online System will help innovation actors to access these. LIAISON will develop detailed best practices and approaches for H2020 multi-actor projects, Thematic Networks, Operational Groups and other interactive innovation approaches that contribute to the implementation of EIP-Agri. All project outputs generated by LIAISON will be subject to a process of validation and fine-tuning based upon practical peer-review by consortium members and other closely involved actors and stakeholders.
