However, much work is still to be done in that context. The current pandemic made evident that many HE teachers, forced to adapt their daily work to online settings, lack ‘digital readiness’, which resulted in many frustrated attempts to adapt, work overload and stress. The pandemic revealed a lingering problem of HE systems: if the teachers are not digitally prepared, they are also not conveying important work-valuable digital skills to the students. HE students use ICT tools everyday, but not in a professional manner, and most students lack professional digital skills that would enhance their employability profile. This is particularly important taking into consideration that many companies are considering adopting a more digital work setting from now on.Additionally, many students lack basic notions of netiquette and online communication and politeness, which also contributes to diminishing their employability. Partners identified the following NEEDS related to digital transformation in the HE systems:-modernization and updating of teaching practice at HE, especially within less digitally-prompt teachers;-upskilling of students regarding work-valuable digital skills;-better fit between the market's needs and the skills developed at the HE pathway;-improvement of online security awareness;-better cooperation between HE systems and the labor market.<< Objectives >>Back2Basics (B2B) aims at addressing digital transformation in the HE system and bringing HE systems and labor markets closer together, working in the enhancement of digital skills in the HEI in order to train more digitally prepared teachers and graduates. Partners intend to demonstrate a potential approach to create an actual change in HE systems, turning them more modern and in-line the needs of the labor market. B2B will address the following OBJECTIVES:-contribute to developing a HE learning system that better responds to the demands of current market, by including digital tasks and tools in regular HE teaching/learning practice;-capacitate HE teachers with digital pedagogical skills and tools and improve their teaching efficiency;-train HE students in work-valuable digital skills;-create a pilot teaching/learning system more adjusted to current most-needed digital skills in the labor market;-train both teachers and students on online security and data protection. This project will have a core, main target audience: teachers and students from HE systems, from all disciplines; and a secondary audience of other stakeholders interested in developing digital skills.<< Implementation >>In order to reach the proposed objectives, the B2B consortium will implement the following ACTIVITIES:- 1 LTTA directed mainly at HE students, where they will acquire important digital skills that will enhance their employability profiles and be in direct contact with experts from several recruitment/training areas who will help them improve their netiquette, behavior, communication;- 1 LTTA directed mainly at HE teachers that will be trained on digital skills, so they can more easily enhance their classes with digital tools and assignments that will increase their contribution to train graduates with better employability profiles, regarding ICT skills;- Pilot Programme, a small-scale trial run on more digitally-based teaching techniques that will be implemented in both partner HEI. This pilot testing will allow partners to understand in practice how it is possible to include digital skills demanded by the labor market in a context of academic learning and what are the best ways to do it. In this pilot we intend to involve 10 teachers and around 300 HE students will benefit from these classes;- 3 Multiplier Events titled “Bridging the gap between HE and labor market: the importance of Digital Skills” in order to share and promote the project and its results, foster networking between HEI and the labor market, promote discussions on how digital transformation in HE systems (particularly classes) can be done;- International Final Conference, at the end of the project, in order to share and promote the project and its results, mainly the Pilot Programme. HE teachers and graduates directly involved in the Program will be able to share their experience, the challenges and opportunities it brought and their main conclusions about the effectiveness of this pilot testing. We intend that this event will encourage more HE teachers to digitally adapt their classes. During the lifecycle of the project, all partners will also promote talks, seminars and workshops about digital transformation and readiness in the HE system; the benefits of a closer proximity between HEI and the labor market; and necessities of the labor market in terms of digital skills and what the labor market expects from young adults.<< Results >>The main results and deliverables, regarding the material/tangible results, are:-A training course for HE teachers that will capacitate them to better prepare and deliver classes and assignments, using digital tools, and thus upskill their pedagogical practice;-A multi-media training package for HE students that will help them make a better use of a set of digital tools in working environments and turn them more market-valuable;-A guide for online communication and etiquette good practice;-A handbook addressing do’s and don'ts in online security and data protection;-A pilot HE teaching/learning programme undertook under several disciplines with the aim of bridging the gap between formal teaching and the labor-market’s digital needs;-A set of at least 10 scripts for digitally-enhanced classes from a set of subjects. The immaterial results will include:-A co-learning and training experience including 2 HE institutions, the business sector and the third sector jointly working to bring HE systems closer to the digital needs of the labor market;-A contribution to the modernization and the digital transformation of education and training HE systems across southern Europe, replicable in other regions;-A contribution to building a HE system that is more inclusive to teachers or students lacking digital skills;-The creation of a transnational cooperation network to inspire modern HE systems and to boost graduates’ employability and competitiveness. The project and its results are planned in a way to respond to both urgent needs made visible by the COVID19 crisis, but also to lingering fragilities in the HEI-labor market binomial. Therefore, the partners believe that the envisaged resources will be used for a long time after funding.

The toolkit will serve the purpose of helping these two categories of professionals (direct target group) in recognising basic skills acquired through informal or non-formal learning contexts, as a means to improve the employability of the final beneficiaries. Alongside the recognition of skills, the direct target group will be in the position of helping the final beneficiaries in creating their individualised learning pathway, as a means of upskilling and improving their position in the labour market, but also for self-improvement, in the context of lifelong learning promotion. The project will reach out to over 200 adult education teachers/ trainers, over 450 low-skilled adults in search of employment and at least 1,500 project stakeholders ( career offices; VET providers; labour market representatives; technical schools; civil society organisations; local groups of interest; umbrella organisations; decision makers at local level; professional associations; local stakeholders), through the project activities, the multiplier events, as well as the dissemination and exploitation activities planned to be implemented. To achieve the results foreseen, the partners will carry out a current situation analysis, through which they will identify the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) procedures implemented in each participating country, what the labour market is in need of in terms of basic skills, what adult education provision offers and how career offices help low-skilled adults in finding a job. The conclusions of the report will provide the necessary insight to all consortium members to develop the Pathways methodology. It will be composed of the definition and applicability of RPL, the methodology for applying it, the appropriate tools, as well as motivation and engagement techniques for low-skilled adults on lifelong learning options for upskilling and personal development. A training course will then be developed addressed to adult education and career professionals, aimed at building their capacities to implement the Pathways methodology. In principle, this will be delivered to trainers of trainers through a short term learning activity, with the latter then delivering it to the direct target groups. A four-month pilot phase will see at least 450 low-skilled adults have their basic skills recognised and their individualised learning pathway to upskilling determined. The Pathways eLearning platform will be facilitating the results' development phase, but, most importantly, the pilot of the results. In summary, the most important results of the project are: 1. the current situation report; 2. the Pathways toolkit; 3. the training course for adult education and career professionals and the corresponding didactic manual; 4. the Pathways Learning platform; 5. the short term learning activity for trainers of trainers; 6. the multiplier events.Horizontal activities to ensure the smooth project implementation, dissemination and sustainability of results are also provisioned in the context of this project (project management, quality assurance, dissemination and exploitation strategy).Through the implementation of this project the most important benefit will be for the low-skilled adults to have their basic skills recognised as a means to improve their employability, but also enter into a mindset based on which learning is necessary not only when referring to employment, but also personal development. The focus of the project being on the capacity building of adult education and career professionals is also a very important element for ensuring significant impact, but most importantly sustainability of the project results. The partners are convinced that the added value of the Pathways methodology, along with the high transferability potential will greatly benefit all target groups and project stakeholders identified.

This contractual partnership includes different organizations which provide a complementary approach: a French employer organization (CGPME: General Confederation of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises), and an association specialised in quality assurance in higher education (EQAHE: Europa Quality Agency for Higher Education). The project builds on an existing training module known as the EUBAT (European Business Administration Test) originally developed for students in full-time professional training courses, comprised of modules on European culture and citizenship and available in 165 countries around the world. The main question: Is it possible to create skills-based training courses from those established by the FEDE since 1963 which integrate the principles of e-learning and self-study in order to address the lack of general cultural knowledge regarding Europe by a workforce which faces a borderless market and therefore needs to understand today's changing world? The 24-month project will address this problem by developing a methodological approach and tangible tools: - creation of an MBE (Making Business in Europe) curriculum - which includes two modules, on European culture and citizenship (to be adapted), and two new modules (to be developed) on multiculturalism, human resources and particularities of business in Europe (the European economy, market and businesses, business development, European accounting, taxation, subsidies, lobbying...).- creation of training content based on the didactic approach provided in the curriculum.- creation of a MOOC platform (containing educational tools and tests) and a textbook.- creation of a certificate ""Making Business in Europe"" attesting to the acquisition of knowledge and skills. The project includes 13 phases of work that will enable the creation, testing and validation of educational tools in order to ensure their sustainability and their inclusion into the educational programs offered by training partners."
