CONTEXT The project was created in response to two basic needs identified at the level of the schools involved - the need to boost students' motivation and consequently their school results and the need to promote intercultural dialogue among people from different countries and backgrounds. The purpose of this project was two distinct directions. Hence, Students got more involved in their own learning by using the computer in their studying. They improved their results and performance accordingly. In order to experience what it means to be European, they were exposed to different ways of thinking, values and beliefs. The parnership included 5 schools – TR, MK, LT, IT and BG . AIM: Students' motivation, involvement and school results and to promote intercultural dialogue were improved. OBJECTIVES The objectives were to achieve: 1. to involve students in their own learning with a view to attaining better results and becoming more motivated; (about 45 percent from the target group improved their school results) 2. to develop students' transversal skills - numeracy, computer literacy, critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability; (about 35 percent of students improved those skills) 3. to develop intercultural understanding and acceptance; (about 65 percent of students had better knowledge of other cultures) 4. to develop communication skills in English; (the 121 participants, students and teachers, improved communication skills in English) 5. to promote European values and develop cohesion among European citizens. (measurable by analysing students' and teachers' attitudes to other cultures, as seen in the post-LTTA feedback)P.S: The knowledge of other cultures among students were evaluated through final surveys and satisfaction surveys. Also the participants to attend these mobilities joined the English courses at the beginning of the project. The project “TOLERANCE IS THE START!” involves 5 schools from 5 European countries: LT,PT,GR,RO,TR. According to the SWOT analysis done by each partner in their institution, the partners indentified a series of common needs that lead to the decision to implement a project about tolerance. Violence, aggression, intolerance, racism, ethnic discrimination are tendencies that can be observed in the behavior of the students from all the partner countries. In The World Values Survey shows that Portugal, Turkey and Romania are the least racially tolerant countries, while Greece and Lithuania seem to be the most tolerant countries. This result along with the diverse educational and cultural background of the partners will facilitate the implementation of a successful project. The project objectives are:-to develop civic competences and increase self-esteem of 110 students from 5 EU countries-to facilitate understanding the concepts “tolerance” and “mutual understanding” at a personal level and in the European context-to equip participants with practical examples for acting as civic-minded citizens-to raise awareness about diversity and cultural identities promoting social cohesion-to boost the feeling of belonging to the EU communityIn accordance with the Article 2 of the Treaty on the European Union, we envisage that this international cooperation will prepare our students for living in a multicultural society being aware of the EU values, appreciating diversity. Students will interiorize tolerance and mutual understanding as active civic attitudes. For reaching the overall aim of broadening the civic mindedness emphasizing the importance of tolerance and mutual understanding impact in daily life, we decided to use an innovative approach. To reach the project objectives an innovative approach will be used. Combining the advantages of using ICT in education with the Five Factor Model theory will tackle the 5 personality dimensions:-openness to experience: students will be encouraged to express their emotions and ideas using Art. They will create together the movie “Tolerance through my eyes”, scenarios for the Forum theater, digital photos, will prepare artistic moments for the Festival of tolerance and mutual understanding.-extraversion: team building activities, sports competitions and board games are going to stimulate students’ assertiveness, sociability and personality.-agreeableness: working in international teams and creating products together will develop students’ cooperation skills. The tangible products they will create together are flashcards about the topic, the dictionary of the project, handmade bookmarks and thematic puzzles.-neuroticism: students will experience (un)pleasant emotions, anger, depression, anxiety and vulnerability during the Forum theater/ theater activity. They will become aware of how intolerance is perceived by others, develop empathy and they will see how important is to be an active citizen. The use of ICT during the activities, supported by internal cognitive aspects of learning will lead to innovative outcomes results tackling learning abilities. The activities are designed to develop the tolerance, mutual understanding, intercultural competences, social and civic spirit. The international cooperation will broaden the cross-cultural knowledge and understanding about the countries, cultures and values strengthening the feeling of belonging to a united Europe.

The project was implemented in five secondary schools in IT, PL, RO, LT, TR and designed to meet the current objectives of the European Commission. Taking into account the different rates of youth unemployment in the countries of origin involved in the project (PL: 19.1%, IT: 37.8%, RO: 20.6%, LT 17.2%, TR: 19.6 %) (source: ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics), data and innovation in national curricula can be obtained. Also, the rise of unemployment rates in the present, the results presented show the difficulty of graduates in finding a job according to their desiderata, abilities, or their characteristics. Therefore, this project aims to meet the needs of graduates, young European citizens in secondary schools, helping them to choose appropriate misconduct according to the right professional and personal choices. Graduates should be aware of their personal potential and access information from the economy and the European labor market. The project focuses on the concept of sharing experience and good practice. Participants will benefit from the expertise of the professionals and associate partners of the beneficiaries. They will help students to transfer information and apply them in a modern and dynamic school environment. The project is based on the development of entrepreneurial skills for students, giving them opportunities to enter the labor market, institutions at all levels: local / regional / European or private companies in the same field. Students will develop their real adaptability to local, national and EU labor market needs. The project has a duration of two years, with a TM for its assessment, as well as four teaching / learning / evaluation activities, pupil exchange workshops and good practice examples provided by the Italian school (Good Practice Example 1: Relationship developed between the school and labor markets in Italy) and the Romanian school (Example 2: Creating Exercise Companies as Real Firms). These useful applications will be integrated into project activities, and in the second year, all partners will apply the two good practice examples. During each exchange, seminars will be provided by labor market professionals to easily make the transition from school to work and to reduce labor market segmentation. The project's goal is an international one, creating synergy between partner schools and inspiring students to think and develop their future career. The project involves the participation of 2630 people in direct and indirect ways. Students: All project activities, both locally and internationally, will involve students as the most important beneficiaries directly and indirectly. Approximately 1200 students / graduates will be indirectly affected. Teachers: They will be involved both as instructors and as beneficiaries by observing other schools and their education systems. There will be teams of 5 teachers from each partner organization, a total of 25 teachers will actively participate in the project’s activities. Approximately 150 teachers / instructors / adults will be affected indirectly. Administrative staff: will address the legal issues of the project, knowing and respecting other school education systems, transferring examples of good practice in the curriculum. Approximately 36 people in the administrative staff will be indirectly affected. Graduates: Questionnaires will be applied to at least 100 graduates and this assessment will provide data on professional life. A total of 500 students will be involved. Parents: The number of family members involved will be around 300, contributing to the knowledge of the culture and tradition of the host country. Approximately 480 family members of those involved will be indirectly influenced. Labor market members: In each school, at least 15 labor market professionals will be involved. Local community: Local community members: university lecturers, local press, municipality, national education direction, and PTA will help disseminate the project to a much wider community. Approximately 300 people in the local community will be indirectly involved. Positive direct effects are expected: from 30% of pupils and members of target groups by: - acquiring basic skills in the field of entrepreneurship; - reducing segmentation in the local, national and international labor market; - providing pupils with opportunities to connect to the labor market through local / regional / European institutions or private companies; - directing students to analyze their own markets; - Increasing students' flexibility in choosing a job and integrating the concept of lifelong learning, as well as identifying a possible career; - flexibility in thinking; - adapting to local, national and European labor market needs; - provide unique opportunities for students to acquire entrepreneurial knowledge and deep understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity in a united European community.

This project is a socially responsible project. It takes immigrants and refugees in its core and approaches this sensitive topic in many ways by many groups of people. This project states that everyone deserves to live a life according to the DECLERATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. Human Rights Watch, has witnessed and documented for more than ten years, severe violations of human rights, especially with it comes to immigrant children in their detention. Young children can be detained against their will, in places with adults they do not know. They may experience brutal treatment by them, the police or other authorities. Those kids are being held in conditions that are way below the minimum international standards for a decent human life. Their liberty is being deprived by others. There are several cases of immigrant children being detained. One case is migrant children who are unaccompanied; one other is children within a family (from infants to kids). Then we have children who are refugees and seek asylum or children whose parents are seeking asylum because they are refugees as well. This project deals with one of the most concerning social issues in recent time. It is one of the most important issues for each and every one of us. This is a joint cooperation with institutions from countries that are being affected by this problem in a major degree. Italy and Turkey are the two most affected countries, where this issue is dramatically scaling. The school from Portuguese has a number of students who are refugees. Lithuania has several issues the last years as well as Portugal, since people flea from Africa to the EU via the Mediterranean Sea. This project aims to develop and enhance the social awareness, so everyone can understand those people and the situation they are and help them to cope with that situation. This project shows special sensitivity with it comes to children. It’s our responsibility to help them and support them, as our ethics and humanitarian values command. The core of this project is Humanism. We have to show our humanity and respect to the people who are going through this because we are all living in the same world. It could very easily be us, going under the same situation. We must face this as a common mission and responsibility. Since we are educational institutions, we cannot do much to solve this very serious problem as we speak, but we can set the basis for a better world in the future. We can manage to educate people , so migrants and refugees become more socially acceptable and give them a strong motivation and hope for a happier life. In this project, our students will learn to develop their social skills, sensitivity and built autonomous thinking and personalities. Our project will deal with the issues stated below:-Forced migrants and refugees- Causes/Consequences of forced immigration-Immigrant children in detention and the impact to them -Lack of sensitivity towards migrants/refugeesWe will develop and promote:- Social responsibility for immigrants - Enhance social awareness, consciousness, sensitivity, empathy and tolerance for the refugees and immigrants. -Bringing down stereotypes-Volunteering and entrepreneurship skills of the students. The activities of our project, will be implemented in five schools, the schools that are close to the first ones, local NGOs and the local community. The main aim of the project is to make students aware of the significance of adopting alternative sources of energy such as wind, wave or sun energy which do not compromise the natural environment. The project aims include: -making students aware of the importance of using alternative sources of energy -encouraging students to improve their English and ITC skills -promoting an ecological life as a strategy for being ecological and healthy, thus leading a lifelong ecological lifestyle -imposing a long-term policy of schools in dealing with the problem of overusing electricity and neglecting environmental matters -supporting social inclusion and prevention of discrimination -developing knowledge among students and teachers of the diversity of European cultures thus promoting respect and tolerance for other nations NUMBER AND PROFILE OF THE PARTICIPANTS Students/teenagers: Each exchange involves the participation of 6 students per country who will participate directly in the exchanges. These students will be selected prior to each mobility, according to transparent criteria, which will involve command of English, ICT skills, voluntary work, involvement in the school-based activities and motivation. Teachers/Adults: There will be teams of 5 teachers at each partner organisation so 35 in total who will manage the project implementation. Each of them will be assigned clear tasks from the beginning ranging from linguistic to technical fields. According to the importance and relevance of their contribution and profession 2 participating teachers will be selected from this team before each exchange. MAIN ACTIVITIES During the exchanges, students will attend classes in the morning and in the afternoon, they will work toward the achievement of specific goals in each activity: C1-TR Join Staff Event at the beginning with the participation of 3 teachers from each partner to have seminar from an academic professional- and to have seminar from EU project expert. C2- IT The project teams will join the workshops about different kinds of renewable energy -meeting with an expert who will show the types of energy and advantages of such an ecological solution; workshops will include students’ work based on previous findings made as a result of visits to local Ecology Department; will make posters about renewable energy, there will be some quizzes. The final product will be an e-book regarding the main topic of the meeting. C3- BG The activities will be organized in a forum presented by the students which includes topics What do local authorities do to provide inhabitants with renewable energy?/ Why should we use it? / Effects on health and the nature/ The statistical data of applying renewable energy in our regions. The final product will consist in an online magazine containing all the results produced during the meeting. C4- MK Students put together the information and statistical data collected and create another ebook which encompasses a set of practical advices on how to deal with the most serious ecological problems and the likely consequences if no measure is undertaken. C5- LT Students and teachers run workshops after which an online magazine is produced with the emphasis on things to be easily done in our daily life to protect the environment – it will be a summary of the all previous meetings. Apart from workshops, we are planning to organize visits to a recycling plant, local ecological farms and plants producing renewable energy appliances. METHODOLOGY We have divided our topic into several sub-topics which will constitute the theme of each meeting and exchange envisaged in the project. During LTTAs, students will be at the centre of all the activities, as we believe that by involving them directly and supervising their work, the project will surely have a stronger impact on them. RESULTS AND IMPACTS We have assumed the publication of 3 intermediate products which will result from the activities performed during the exchanges and will be made available to larger audiences on the project website, through all the dissemination activities included in the dissemination plan. Therefore, we hope that there will be a positive, measurable impact at the level of participants (with a clear increasing in awareness of ecological problems among the target group members), of the local school communities and wider communities, at the level of the institutions involved and other related institutions, at local, regional, national and international levels. Each school will involve project topics into their curriculum – it can be added to English lessons, biology lessons and geography classes- this way the project results will last for many years to come. We intend to promote a sustainability plan involving the implementation of the project results for at least 15 other schools within the three years following the end of the project in order to let these communities develop benefit from our European views.
