    The objective of the project is to develop new ways to implement quality validation of aircraft products in a more efficient manner, reducing non-recurring costs, reducing the need of man-hours and the involvement of manipulation by an human operator, reducing lead times and flexibility of the processes, through minimization of test means dependency trying to maximize the usage of the current Aircraft computers, and implementing new concepts for the automation of quality and validation tests on the aircraft, through artificial vision and robotic collaboration.

    SMART-LAYUP activities described in the present proposal will contribute to develop and validate an advanced process of hybrid materials automated lay-up for manufacturing of regional aircraft composite fuselage which allows a significant reduction of the overall production costs and manufacturing flow. After a developmental phase to be performed at MTORRES site, the innovative process and related machine will be validated and costs assessed through the execution of dedicated lay-up tests and fabrication of fuselage demonstrators at Topic Manager plant.

    The main objective of the COFRARE 2.0 project, answering to the call for proposal launched in WP B-4.3, will be to carry out process development for composite frames manufacturing with high production rate and low cost to provide a step forward in the development of aerostructures composite component for aircrafts such as Regional ones. The project will contribute to the development and validation of an advanced process for manufacturing composite fuselage frames, which will result in a significant reduction in overall production costs, component weight and manufacturing flow. In order to understand the feasibility of the technology to match the application, LRI and RTM processes will be validated and cost assessed through the application of the building block approach, meaning starting from Level 1 coupons to advance then to Level 2 elements to finally validate at test Level 3 of subcomponents to pass at the end to the realization of two demonstrators.
