This dataset provides crowd-sourced and georeferenced information useful for the assessment of cultural ecosystem services in the Sierra Nevada Biosphere Reserve (southern Spain). Data were collected within the European project ECOPOTENTIAL focused on Earth observations of ecosystem services. The dataset comprises 778 records expressing the results of the content analysis of social media photos published in Flickr. Our dataset is illustrated in this data paper with density maps for different types of information. This work has been carried out within the H2020 project “ECOPOTENTIAL: Improving future ecosystem benefits through earth observations” (http://www.ecopotential- project.eu/), which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 641762.

El proyecto GRIDSOL ha desarrollado una metodología para preparar Hojas de Ruta Sostenibles de los Sistemas de Generación de Energía (SRoEGS), con el objetivo de determinar la mejor manera de que una región alcance un mix de generación altamente renovable, teniendo en cuenta un conjunto integral de condiciones tales como: seguridad de suministro, disponibilidad de tierra, uso de agua, etc. Los resultados de un caso práctico muestran que simplemente agregar generación renovable barata a la mezcla es lo suficientemente bueno si el objetivo de contenido de energía renovable (RE) es bajo (hasta un 25%) pero, si una fracción RE realmente significativa (más del 60%) se desea adaptar el despliegue a los recursos disponibles y, lo que es más importante, determinar los requisitos de almacenamiento a nivel de sistema que ayuda a mantener los costos al mínimo. ABSTRACT: A fully renewable electricity sector is in our future but finding the path that minimizes the cost of this transition is no easy task. The GRIDSOL project has developed a methodology to prepare Sustainable Roadmaps of Energy Generation Systems (SRoEGS), aimed at determining the best way for a region to reach a highly renewable generation mix, while taking into account a comprehensive set of conditions such as: security of supply, availability of land, use of water, etc. The results of a case study show that simply adding cheap renewable generation to the mix is good enough if the renewable energy (RE) content target is low (up to 25%) but, if a truly significant RE fraction (over 60%) is desired, tailoring the deployment to the available resources and, most importantly, determining the storage requirements at the system level helps keeping the costs to a minimum. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

CIES2020 - XVII Congresso Ibérico e XIII Congresso Ibero-americano de Energia Solar RESUMO: Este trabalho descreve os ensaios realizados com um simulador laboratorial de radiação solar concentrada com o objectivo de avaliar o comportamento de lentes em vidro de sílica quando sujeitas a elevados fluxos de radiação, e permitiu comparar o seu comportamento com o que foi demonstrado por lentes idênticas, mas fabricadas em vidro de borossilicato (BK-7) cujo preço é muito inferior. Os ensaios de irradiação das lentes atingiram durações de 60 minutos, durante os quais se procedeu à monitorização contínua da potência da radiação aplicada sobre cada lente e da temperatura nela gerada. Todas as lentes em vidro de sílica se comportaram bem, mas o mesmo não ocorreu com as lentes em vidro de borossilicato. No trabalho é aventada a hipótese de o comportamento negativo registado nas lentes em borossilicato ser provocado pelo facto de se ter usado a radiação emitida por uma lâmpada de arco de xénon que pode conter comprimentos de onda que estão ausentes na radiação solar, pelo que é proposto que nos futuros testes não se use um simulador de radiação solar. ABSTRACT: This work describes the tests conducted with a laboratory-scale high-flux solar simulator aiming to evaluate the performance of optical lenses made of silica glass when subjected to high-fluxes of radiation, and it allowed to compare their behaviour with the behaviour shown by lenses made of borosilicate glass (BK-7) which price is much lower. The irradiation tests reached durations up to 60 minutes, with continuous monitoring of the power irradiating each and of the temperature generated on it. All silica lenses have shown a good performance, contrarily to what was observed with the lenses made of borosilicate. In the work it is mentioned the possibility that the negative behaviour observed with the borosilicate lenses may be due to the fact that the radiation spectrum of a xenon arc lamp contains certain wavelengths that are not present in the solar radiation spectrum, and therefore it is suggested that future tests are conducted with real concentrated solar radiation and not with a simulator that artificially reproduces the solar energy distribution. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

The ultimate goals of this European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF 2014–2020) project are to devise a holistic approach towards marine monitoring and develop a comprehensive database of data collected about the Maltese waters. Good datasets of geo-referenced records of alien species are a prerequisite for assessing the spatio-temporal dynamics of biological invasions, their invasive potential, and the magnitude of their impacts. However, with the exception of first records on a country level or wider regions, observations of species presence tend to remain unpublished, buried in scattered repositories or in the personal databases of experts. Through an initiative to collect, harmonize and make such unpublished data for marine alien and cryptogenic species in the Mediterranean Sea available, a large dataset comprising 5376 records was created. It includes records of 239 alien or cryptogenic taxa (192 Animalia, 24 Plantae, 23 Chromista) from 19 countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. In terms of records, the most reported Phyla in descending order were Chordata, Mollusca, Chlorophyta, Arthropoda, and Rhodophyta. The most recorded species was Caulerpa cylindracea, followed by Siganus luridus, Magallana sp. (cf. gigas or angulata) and Pterois miles. The dataset includes records from 1972 to 2020, with the highest number of records observed in 2018. Among the records of the dataset, Dictyota acutiloba is a first record for the Mediterranean Sea. Nine first country records are also included: the alga Caulerpa taxifolia var. distichophylla, the cube boxfish Ostracion cubicus, and the cleaner shrimp Urocaridella pulchella from Israel; the sponge Paraleucilla magna from Libya and Slovenia; the lumpfish Cyclopterus lumpus from Cyprus; the bryozoan Celleporaria vermiformis and the polychaetes Prionospio depauperata and Notomastus aberans from Malta. En los próximos años los edificios se convertirán en productores y consumidores de energía al mismo tiempo. Por esta razón, la gestión de la demanda a nivel de edificio y a nivel de barrio a través de un agregador independiente requerirá de sistemas de control inteligentes con el objetivo de optimizar y gestionar dos aspectos: maximizar el uso de energía renovable local y usar la energía de la red en el momento más oportuno. El presente estudio se enfoca en los resultados de un sistema de algoritmos de optimización multi-nivel testeados en tiempo real. El experimento desarrollado reproduce, en dos laboratorios físicamente alejados 100 km, el comportamiento de dos edificios de un mismo barrio mediante un sistema semi-virtual donde unos modelos del edificio determinan su demanda energética emulandola en los laboratorios haciendo actuar al equipamiento físico en condiciones reales de trabajo. Los resultados muestran que la gestión inteligente de la masa térmica del edificio con los algoritmos de optimización puede aportar los mismos beneficios que instalar una batería eléctrica actuando con algoritmos inteligentes o de autoconsumo. CIES2020 - XVII Congresso Ibérico e XIII Congresso Ibero-americano de Energia Solar RESUMO: O calor solar para processos industriais (SHIP) tem-se apresentado como um nicho de crescimento da capacidade instalada de solar térmico a nível mundial e pelo menos 741 sistemas, totalizando uma área de coletores de 662 648 m2 (567 MWth), encontravam-se em operação no final de 2018, dos quais 108 foram novos sistemas que começaram a operar durante esse ano. Em Portugal, para além de casos pontuais de pequenos sistemas de baixa temperatura essencialmente para produção de águas quentes sanitárias, o calor de processo solar é praticamente inexistente. O projeto SHIP – Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (P2020) – teve como principal objetivo desenvolver e demonstrar, na empresa KEMET Electronics Portugal S.A., em Évora, um sistema de integração direta de tecnologias solares térmicas de média temperatura, testando e validando-o e garantindo assim a sua aproximação ao mercado.
